Traditional Boat Race

The Traditional dragon boat has a standard crew of 22, comprising 20 paddlers in pairs facing towards the bow of the boat, 1 Drummer (caller) at the bow facing towards the paddlers, and 1 sweep or tiller(helm) at the rear of the boat.

The drummer may be considered the "heartbeat" of the dragon boat, he leads the crew throughout the race with the rhythmic beating of a drum to indicate the timing and frequency of paddling strokes, he gives his command through voice calls or hand signals.
